Kelheim Fibres GmbH and Santoni Collaborate to Develop Innovative and Sustainable Menstrual Underwear

Kelheim Fibres GmbH and Santoni, two major players in the textile industry, have teamed up to develop a new and sustainable menstrual underwear. This groundbreaking product combines advanced machine technology and high-quality performance viscose fibers, providing women with a highly functional and comfortable alternative during their menstrual cycle.

The menstrual underwear comprises a soft outer layer and an inlay made from special wood-based fibers from Kelheim. The soft outer layer is produced on Santoni SM8-TOP2V circular knitting machines or on the SM4-TL2 machine, reducing cutting waste significantly or even enabling zero-waste production.

The functional inlay, on the other hand, is produced on the Santoni XT-Machine, which was originally developed for the footwear market. The unique XT-Machine allows for different layers to be produced with different yarns and knitting structures, enabling the production of all three functions of the inlay in a single tube. This reduces production time and costs and enables zero-waste production.

The inlay of the menstrual underwear uses Kelheim’s specialty fibers such as trilobal Galaxy or the hollow Bramante fiber, which replace synthetic materials. This collaboration between Santoni and Kelheim Fibres is a testament to their shared values of tradition, sustainability, and innovation.

According to Patrick Silva Szatkowski, marketing manager at Santoni, “Our machines have changed the manufacturing process, making garments almost seam-free and offering solutions for 3D knitting. Our goal is to provide efficient machineries to produce sustainable and comfortable garments while reducing the quantity of operations. The collaboration with Kelheim Fibres GmbH has been driven by the same values, and we are proud of the excellent result.”

Natalie Wunder, project manager of new business development at Kelheim Fibres, added, “With this joint development and the combination of our different areas of expertise, we have expanded our range of femcare products. Once again, we show how our special viscose fibers play an essential role in performance and sustainability in hygiene products. I look forward to seeing the project commercialized soon – partners are always welcome.”

The development of the menstrual underwear by Kelheim Fibres GmbH and Santoni is a significant breakthrough in the femcare industry. It combines innovation, sustainability, and functionality to provide a product that meets the needs of women while reducing the environmental impact of menstrual products.

Menstrual products are known to generate a lot of waste, with the majority of them being non-biodegradable and harmful to the environment. This partnership between Kelheim Fibres and Santoni offers a sustainable alternative, which is eco-friendly and cost-effective.

The menstrual underwear is expected to have a significant impact on the femcare industry, paving the way for other sustainable menstrual products. With their shared values of sustainability and innovation, Kelheim Fibres and Santoni have set an excellent example for other companies in the textile industry to follow.

In conclusion, the collaborative efforts of Kelheim Fibres GmbH and Santoni have led to the creation of an innovative and sustainable menstrual underwear, providing women with a high-quality and eco-friendly alternative. The development of this product marks a significant milestone in the femcare industry, offering a sustainable solution to an environmental problem.
