Workers rights campaigners are urging fashion companies Next and Superdry to honour $500,000 said to be owed to Cambodian garment workers after their factory closed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Labour Behind the Label initiative says that the brands, along with online retailer ASOS, were supplied by the Wai Full Textiles which closed in May 2021 when workers were paid some money to cover their annual leave but with $500,000 in unpaid wages and severance pay outstanding.
Campaigners say that the brands are the only hope for the former workers as the factory owners have gone bankrupt, with all assets dissolved, followed some months later by the Hong Kong-based parent company.
