Polyant and Hyosung Unveil Sustainable Sailcloth at Performance Days Munich

The future of sustainable fabric innovation is setting sail as Dimension-Polyant, the world’s premier sailcloth producer, and Hyosung, a comprehensive textile solutions provider, join forces to introduce an eco-friendly breakthrough at Performance Days Munich.

In an effort to combat ocean plastic pollution and meet the rising demand for sustainable materials, Dimension-Polyant is ready to unveil its latest marvel: a sustainable version of their renowned X-Pac VX21 laminate, crafted from 100% recycled regen Ocean nylon sourced from discarded fishing nets. This groundbreaking fabric not only champions sustainability but also proudly carries the cleenTEC seal, signifying its carbon-neutral status achieved through carbon offsets.

Sailing Toward Sustainability

The X-Pac VX21 laminate is a four-layer wonder, featuring regen Ocean nylon fortified with Dimension-Polyant’s patented X-PLY fiber reinforcement technology, constructed from post-consumer recycled PET. Adding to its eco-credentials, the lightweight taffeta backing is also composed of 100% recycled post-consumer PET, ensuring enhanced stitch holding.

Perhaps equally impressive is the fact that this fabric is manufactured in Dimension-Polyant’s 100% carbon-neutral plant, marking a significant commitment to reducing its environmental footprint.

CleenTEC Seal: A Symbol of Sustainability

Dimension-Polyant’s eco-friendly journey doesn’t end with the regen Ocean nylon laminate. The company has extended its cleenTEC seal to other X-Pac fabrics as well. These fabrics, while boasting a blend of recycled or bio-based components, go the extra mile by actively engaging in climate offsets. By partnering with ClimatePartner, Dimension-Polyant calculates and offsets the total environmental impact of each cleenTEC fabric, making it entirely climate neutral.

Collaboration for a Cleaner Ocean

Taylor North, Head of Technical Fabrics at Dimension-Polyant US, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration with Hyosung, stating, “We have been waiting for just the right 100 per cent recycled material that meets our durability standards and sustainability story to collaborate with on the next phase of our best-selling VX21 laminate.”

Roman Park, Hyosung Performance Leader for nylon and polyester, echoed the excitement, saying, “I strongly believe that collaboration along the supply chain is how great products are created. Dimension-Polyant will help make our regen Ocean nylon shine, and we look forward to seeing new packs and bags made with its new laminate in the future.”

A Glimpse into the Future

In addition to the regen Ocean nylon innovation, Dimension-Polyant will showcase more sustainable and durable pack and bag materials, including the X-Pac RX collection. This collection features mono-polymer fabrics with a 100% post-consumer recycled polyester face fabric and X-PLY reinforcement. Even the polyester film backing maintains a sleek, technical appearance, treated with a PFAS-free DWR.

With these new cleenTEC styles, Dimension-Polyant is setting a course for a sustainable future. As Taylor North stated, “A majority of X-PAC sold will be cleenTEC, with plans to increase in the future.”

As sustainability becomes an increasingly vital focus in the world of textiles, Dimension-Polyant and Hyosung’s collaboration is a shining example of how innovation and dedication can pave the way for a cleaner, greener future. With the introduction of these groundbreaking materials, they are making waves not only in the textile industry but also in the global effort to protect our oceans and planet.
