Opportunities: Use of phase change materials

The phase change materials (PCMs) have the ability to change their phase with respect to a certain temperature range, and in the process, absorb, accumulate, and release large amounts of energy in the form of latent heat. PCMs absorb heat, and in the process, change from solid to liquid state. Similarly, liquid PCM releases heat and, in the process, gets converted into solid PCM. This inherent property of PCM can be used for heat absorption and release as and when required.
