Rieter to acquire Barmag from OC Oerlikon

Rieter, a prominent textile machinery company headquartered in Winterthur, Switzerland, has entered into a definitive agreement to purchase Barmag from OC Oerlikon for an upfront equity price of CHF 713 million. The deal is anticipated to be finalized in the fourth quarter of 2025, subject to regulatory approval.

Barmag is renowned for its cutting-edge filament spinning systems, texturing equipment, bulked continuous filament (BCF) technology, staple fiber spinning, and nonwoven solutions. The company, which includes the well-known brands Oerlikon Barmag, Oerlikon Neumag, and Oerlikon Nonwoven, generates annual sales of CHF 734 million and employs around 2,600 people. Its main markets are China, India, Türkiye, and the United States.

This acquisition will merge Rieter’s expertise in short-staple fiber processing with Barmag’s strengths in filament and nonwoven technologies, resulting in a more comprehensive product range for transforming both natural and synthetic fibers into yarn. The transaction is expected to strengthen Rieter’s presence in the Asia-Pacific region and grant access to Barmag’s specialized knowledge in filament production, supporting further growth, digital transformation, and sustainability efforts.
