Rieter Expands Market Reach with Strategic Acquisition of Barmag
On May 6, 2025, Rieter signed an agreement to acquire Barmag from OC Oerlikon for CHF 713 million. This transformative acquisition positions Rieter as a leading global supplier across both natural and manmade fiber technologies.
Barmag, known for its advanced filament spinning, texturing, and nonwoven systems, generated CHF 734 million in sales in 2024 and employs approximately 2,600 people. Its technologies complement Rieter’s existing short-staple fiber portfolio and reinforce Rieter’s footprint in key markets such as China, India, Türkiye, and the U.S.
This acquisition allows Rieter to diversify its product offerings, reduce market cyclicality, and enhance its capabilities in digitalization and sustainable production. Backed by secured financing and strong shareholder support, the deal is expected to close by Q4 2025.
CEO Thomas Oetterli commented, “We’re proud to welcome Barmag into the Rieter family. This milestone boosts our technological leadership and creates new value for our customers and shareholders.”
