ROCKWOOL Establishes an Ambitious Venture Near Chennai to Chart a New Growth Path

In the southern state of Tamil Nadu, near Cheyyar, 90 kilometers from Chennai, ROCKWOOL announced plans to construct a new facility. With its Rs. 550 crore investment, ROCKWOOL hopes to employ more than 150 people in the surrounding areas. The long-lasting, recyclable, and non-combustible stone wool insulation from ROCKWOOL will be produced at the new facility. The anticipated start of operations is in Q1 2026.

India has a huge potential for growth because it is the most populous country in the world by population and is predicted to become the third biggest economy by 2030. As a minor player in the Indian insulation industry, we aim to establish ourselves as a force to be reckoned with in the country’s efforts to develop new generations of fire-safe, acoustically pleasing, and energy-efficient buildings. According to Thomas Kähler, Chairman of the Board of ROCKWOOL Group, “the Indian market’s tremendous potential fits well with ROCKWOOL’s mission to provide sustainable, innovative solutions globally.”

Tamil Nadu is leading the way in India’s green transformation with an emphasis on energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies. Furthermore, Tamil Nadu is among the top states in India for promoting the expansion of creative businesses. Significant industrial investment and economic growth are being drawn to the area, resulting in job possibilities and positive community involvement that have been well received by the locals.

We are improving local job prospects and advancing the industrial and economic development of Cheyyar, Tamil Nadu, through our investment. We are eager to respond to India’s increasing need for sustainability and energy efficiency across a range of industries by leveraging our experience with stone wool solutions. We plan to be in this for the long run,” says ROCKWOOL Asia Managing Director Darryl Mathews.
