CovationBio Showcases Two New Bio-Based Textile Innovations at Functional Fabric Fair New York

CovationBio has introduced two new bio-based performance material innovations, Xatryx® bioPTMEG and Sorona® elasterell-p fiber, at the Functional Fabric Fair New York being held from July 7–9, 2026.

The company is showcasing the next generation of sustainable textile solutions at Booth #404, highlighting advancements in bio-based materials designed to support performance apparel, reduce dependence on fossil-based resources, and accelerate the transition toward a more sustainable textile value chain.

Xatryx® BioPTMEG Advances Sustainable Textile Materials

A major highlight of CovationBio’s presentation is Xatryx® bioPTMEG, a second-generation bio-based polyether glycol developed from corncobs, an abundant renewable non-food agricultural by-product.

Designed as a drop-in replacement for traditional petroleum-based polytetramethylene ether glycol (PTMEG), Xatryx® enables manufacturers to transition toward bio-based materials without requiring changes to existing production processes.

The material is suitable for performance apparel applications traditionally using spandex, polyurethanes, and thermoplastic elastomers. Commercial production of Xatryx® is expected to begin in the second half of 2026.

During the Functional Fabric Fair, CovationBio Global Marketing Director for C4 Platform Mosha Zhao will deliver a Main Stage presentation on July 8 at 3:35 p.m. The session will focus on how Xatryx® supports textile performance while helping advance defossilization of the materials supply chain, including a partnership example with Huafon on bio-elastane innovation.

Sorona® Elasterell-p Fiber Offers Durable Plant-Based Stretch

CovationBio is also presenting its newly launched Sorona® elasterell-p fiber, the first U.S.-produced bicomponent stretch fiber containing 37% plant-based Sorona® polymer.

The innovative fiber provides durable stretch, comfort, and shape retention without the use of elastane. It is now commercially available across the United States and Latin America through regional distribution partner Mercados Internacionales (MI).

Sorona® elasterell-p fiber is designed for a wide range of apparel applications, including:

  • Activewear
  • Athleisure wear
  • Workwear
  • Uniforms
  • Performance apparel

The fiber enables brands and manufacturers to achieve long-lasting stretch performance while incorporating renewable materials into their product offerings.

Supporting the Future of Sustainable Performance Apparel

Steven Ackerman, CEO of CovationBio, said that Functional Fabric Fair provides an important platform to connect with designers and product developers shaping the future of performance apparel.

“Together, Xatryx® and Sorona® elasterell-p fiber show how we’re reducing friction and increasing performance for our value chain partners while helping them decrease their environmental impact,” said Ackerman.

The company’s latest innovations reflect its focus on developing scalable biomaterial solutions that combine performance, sustainability, and commercial viability for the global textile industry.
