Dryrobe®, known for its waterproof change robes, has announced the release of Dryrobe® Pure, a product developed using renewable and compostable textile materials for outdoor apparel applications.
According to the company, Dryrobe® Pure includes the world’s first 100% industrially compostable inner pile fabric used in an outdoor environment. The product is described as Version 1.0 of the company’s ongoing development programme focused on renewable and circular materials.
The garment uses BIOSherpa™ technology, which Dryrobe® identifies as an alternative to petroleum-based pile fabrics. The material is composed of 98% bio-based content derived from fermented non-GMO corn, while the remaining 2% consists of natural minerals. The company stated that this is the first use of the medical-grade biopolymer in the outdoor apparel category.

Dryrobe® Pure is manufactured in the UK, and the company stated that all fabrics used in the garment are 100% industrially compostable.
The launch coincides with the opening of Dryrobe®’s new Concept Store, which has been created to present and test developing technologies intended for future outdoor products. The product is priced at £650, made to order, and the company stated that all profits generated from Dryrobe® Pure will be reinvested into research and development activities.
Dryrobe® founder Gideon Bright linked the project to the company’s long-term focus on renewable materials and environmental responsibility. The company also referenced its B Corp™ status and the origins of the Dryrobe® concept, which began with a homemade change robe created by Gideon’s mother in 1983. In 2010, Gideon launched Dryrobe® as a waterproof change robe product.
Commenting on the launch, Gideon Bright said, “Dryrobe® Pure is without a doubt the most ambitious project we’ve ever undertaken. For a long time, creating something like this felt out of reach. It’s a huge challenge to balance new material science with the durability people need. While it would have been easier to stick with standard fabrics, we wanted to see if we could finally build the Dryrobe® we’ve always imagined – one made from organic, renewable sources without using fossil fuels.”
He added: “This first iteration is a major milestone and proof that bio-based fabrics can deliver real performance in real conditions whilst lowering our impact. Dryrobe® Pure is just the beginning of what we believe will define the future of outdoor apparel.”
Dryrobe® Pure will be available to purchase from 1st May at dryrobe.com.
