Ester-Loop JV Secures Multi-Year LOI for Up to 15,000 MT of Recycled PET Resin

Ester Loop Infinite Technologies Private Limited (ELITe), the 50:50 joint venture between Ester Industries Limited and Loop Industries, Inc., has secured another major commercial commitment for its upcoming circular polyester facility in India.

Loop Industries has signed a non-binding Letter of Intent (LOI) with a leading global sports and athletic brand for the potential supply of Loop™ PET Fiber Grade resin under a multi-year commercial framework. The prospective customer intends to purchase up to 15,000 metric tonnes of Loop™ resin annually from the ELITe facility once operational.

The latest agreement marks another significant step in ELITe’s efforts to establish a large-scale textile-to-textile recycling ecosystem in India. It follows the previously announced collaboration with global sportswear major Nike, making this the second commitment from a leading international sports brand for the planned facility.

With commitments from marquee global brands already covering a substantial portion of the facility’s planned annual capacity, ELITe is building commercial visibility ahead of its expected start of operations in 2028.

Growing Demand for Circular Polyester

Commenting on the development, Arvind Singhania, Chairman, Ester Industries Limited, said the additional commitment from a premier global sports brand reinforces market demand for circular, textile-to-textile recycled polyester.

He added that the interest from leading brands further validates ELITe’s strategic role in accelerating sustainable polyester manufacturing and supporting the transition toward more circular supply chains.

Daniel Solomita, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Loop Industries, said the agreement demonstrates the potential of Loop Industries’ technology to produce virgin-quality sustainable resin at commercial scale. He noted that growing interest from major global brands strengthens the long-term commercial case for the Indian facility.

Converting Textile Waste into Virgin-Quality Resin

The ELITe facility is expected to become operational in 2028 and will use Loop Industries’ proprietary depolymerisation technology to process 100% polyester textile waste streams.

Through the process, polyester waste will be converted into virgin-quality monomers, dimethyl terephthalate (DMT) and monoethylene glycol (MEG). These monomers will subsequently be polymerised to produce polyester resin suitable for applications including fibre production.

The technology is designed to support textile-to-textile recycling while reducing reliance on virgin polyester derived from fossil resources.

Initial resin testing and feedstock validation activities have already generated positive preliminary results. The next stages will focus on full material qualification and integration of the recycled resin into long-term supply chains with global brand partners.

ELITe Facility Development Progresses

The Indian facility remains on track for development, with land acquisition expected to be completed within the next two to three months.

Following the completion of Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) by Tata Consulting Engineers, ELITe has awarded the detailed engineering contract to Toyo Engineering India Private Limited.

The project is expected to play an important role in scaling circular polyester production and developing lower-carbon textile supply chains for international brands.

With increasing commitments from global sportswear companies, ELITe’s latest LOI highlights the growing commercial demand for recycled polyester solutions that can deliver quality comparable to virgin materials while supporting circularity and reducing dependence on fossil-based feedstocks.
