Filo & C.L.A.S.S.: Pioneering Sustainable Innovation with Advanced

The partnership between Filo and C.L.A.S.S. (the international eco-hub founded by Giusy Bettoni) has been renewed at the 63rd edition of Filo, with a focus on responsible innovation and sustainable practices. Under the theme “Sustainability from A to Z”, the collaboration aims to help companies navigate the complexities of sustainability through technical insights, case studies, and expert testimonies. The goal is to empower the textile industry to make informed, responsible choices that align with the evolving market landscape.

Showcasing Advanced Natural Fibres and Green Chemistry

At the C.L.A.S.S. space, the spotlight was on “green chemistry” and “advanced” natural fibres such as cotton and linen. The focus was on innovation strategies that enhance traceability and sustainability throughout the supply chain.

  • Supima® Cotton: Known for its extra-long staple, Supima® cotton is recognized for strength, softness, and color retention. The introduction of the AQRe™ Project (Authenticated Quality and Responsible Engagement) — a blockchain-based digital platform in partnership with TextileGenesis™ — ensures real-time traceability of the entire supply chain. Additionally, forensic testing with Oritain™ verifies the origin of the cotton at every production stage, ensuring authenticity and transparency.

  • European Flax-Linen: The Alliance for European Flax-Linen & Hemp presented its new digital traceability platform, set to launch in May 2025. This blockchain-based tool will enable tracking of flax-linen fibres from field to finished product, ensuring authenticity and transparency. The initiative also includes the publication of environmental footprint data and the development of a new sourcing platform for innovative flax-linen and hemp materials.

  • REVECOL® by ERCA: The C.L.A.S.S. space also featured REVECOL®, an Italian innovation by ERCA Textile Chemical Solutions. This 100% Made in Italy solution transforms waste materials, such as used vegetable cooking oil, into high-performance, certified chemical auxiliaries for the textile industry. REVECOL® reduces CO₂ emissions by up to 72% compared to traditional chemical processes and is certified by GRS, RCS, ZDHC, bluesign®, and GOTS. This innovative approach sets a new standard for sustainability in textile chemistry.

Insights and Dialogues at Filo63

The Dialoghi di Confronto sessions provided deeper insights into these innovations:

  • Giusy Bettoni interviewed Roberto Ghioldi, Sales Director of ERCA TCS, discussing the transformative role of REVECOL® in sustainable textile chemistry.

  • A panel on advanced natural fibres explored opportunities in traceability and innovation, featuring experts from the natural fibres industry and TextileGenesis™.

Leadership Perspectives

  • Paolo Monfermoso, General Manager of Filo, highlighted the growing importance of natural fibres in driving innovation and sustainability. He emphasized the need for traceability and responsible practices in the textile industry.

  • Giusy Bettoni, CEO of C.L.A.S.S., expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership’s progress in raising awareness about sustainable production. She emphasized that the collaboration continues to push the boundaries of responsible innovation by showcasing cutting-edge textile products and solutions.

A Shared Vision for a Sustainable Future

The collaboration between Filo and C.L.A.S.S. reflects a shared vision of providing practical and sustainable solutions for the textile industry. The focus on green chemistry and advanced natural fibres aligns with Filo’s mission to offer concrete solutions to the industry’s challenges, making sustainability and traceability central to the future of textiles.
