In a move that signifies India’s commitment to technological advancement and sustainability, the Indian government has recently given its nod to 20 cutting-edge research and development (R&D) projects in the field of technical textiles. With a total worth of Rs 61.09 crore, these projects are poised to revolutionize industries ranging from automotive and aviation to healthcare and infrastructure.
The announcement came after the successful 6th Mission Steering Group (MSG) meeting of the National Technical Textiles Mission, presided over by the Minister of Textiles, Piyush Goyal. These approved projects encompass a broad spectrum of segments within the technical textiles domain, including Geotech, Protech, Indutech, Sustainable Textiles, Sportech, Buildtech, and Specialty Fibres like Carbon Fibre and Ultra High Molecular Weight Poly Ethylene.
Minister Goyal stressed the importance of exploring areas where technical textiles can substitute traditional materials. Lightweight technical textiles offer numerous advantages such as enhanced performance, durability, and environmental sustainability. By harnessing the potential of these innovative materials, India aims to drive technological advancements and promote sustainable growth across diverse sectors.
Among the approved projects, three are focused on Geotech, utilizing textiles in geosynthetic engineering for soil stabilization and erosion control. Additionally, six projects fall under the Protech segment, focusing on protective clothing, personal protective equipment (PPE), and ballistic protection. The other segments, including Indutech, Sportech, Ultra High Molecular Weight Poly Ethylene, Sustainable Textiles, Buildtech, Carbon Fibres, and Specialty/Functional Fibre, each have one or two projects allocated to them.
