Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International School of Textiles and Management (SVPISTM), Coimbatore, has been honoured with the “Best Academic Institution – Educational Contribution to Textile and Clothing Sustainability” at the CITI Textile Sustainability Awards 2026, held during Bharat Tex 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.
The prestigious award was presented to Dr. Biswaranjan Ghosh, Director, SVPISTM, by Union Minister of State for Textiles, Shri Pabitra Margherita, in the presence of senior Ministry of Textiles officials, global industry leaders and international delegates.
The recognition acknowledges SVPISTM’s significant contribution to sustainable textile education through industry-oriented academic programmes, sustainability-focused research, innovation, skill development and close collaboration with the textile and apparel industry. The award reinforces the institute’s growing role in supporting India’s transition towards a globally competitive and environmentally responsible textile ecosystem.
Adding to its achievements, SVPISTM presented the exclusive “Kasturi Fashion Showcase – From Farm to Fashion,” one of the key highlights of Bharat Tex 2026. The showcase illustrated the journey of Kasturi Cotton, India’s premium branded cotton, from cultivation to finished fashion garments, highlighting sustainable agriculture, advanced textile processing, apparel manufacturing and value addition.
The professionally curated fashion presentation celebrated India’s cotton heritage while demonstrating how innovation, circularity and sustainable fashion are shaping the future of the textile industry. Union Minister for Textiles Shri Giriraj Singh praised the creativity and dedication of the students behind the sustainable fashion showcase.
The presentation attracted appreciation from policymakers, international buyers, textile manufacturers, researchers, fashion professionals and global delegates attending Bharat Tex 2026.
Further strengthening the institute’s presence at the event, S. Harish, a third-year BBA student at SVPISTM, received the Special Recognition Award in the Low-Cost Product Development category at Sanrachna 2026 for his innovative work in nonwoven product development.
SVPISTM’s twin accomplishments—winning a national sustainability award and delivering a widely appreciated Kasturi Cotton fashion showcase—underscore its emergence as a leading centre for textile education, innovation and sustainability in India. The recognition further strengthens the institute’s mission of preparing future professionals capable of driving sustainable growth across the textile and apparel value chain.
