Ticking the right boxes for sustainable luxury

A new bio-based, biodegradable material called Texon Verde was created by Texon in Italy with a focus on the market for high-end accessories for clothing and home goods.

It is created from sustainably sourced (FSC) cellulose wood pulp, plant-based binders, and natural colours, and includes up to 90% bio-based content.

The material is lightweight, manageable, tear-resistant, and wipeable, and it will be available starting in April. It is produced using only environmentally friendly mechanical and chemical processes and is free of any toxic compounds, offering a much lower environmental effect compared to typical materials in its segment. Texon Verde additionally makes use of a plant-based, compostable binder technology thanks to partnerships with top industry players.

“Texon Verde is green in both name and nature, and we really areproud of its eco credentials,” said Boyd Mulder, sustainability and marketing director at Texon. “Biodegradable and with a very high level of bio-content, it ticks all the right boxes for our customers in terms of environmental stewardship, and in delivering the high-end properties needed for premium and luxury fashion accessories and applications. This is an exciting addition to our portfolio of sustainable high performance materials and structural components which are making a positive impact on an increasing number of consumer products worldwide.”

The material will be available in three colours – Bianco, Caramello and Nero – and samples will be available for customers to assess at the Lineapelle trade fair in Milan, Italy, from February 22-24.
